The Feldenkrais Method®

Awareness Through Movement ®

In an Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) group lesson the teacher leads you through sequences of movements, some simple and familiar, some novel or even puzzling. Throughout, the work is done below the level of sensations of stretch or strain, so the lessons are both safe and effective for people with a wide range of abilities & disabilities as they are challenging for athletes and performers.

Habitual movement patterns are observed, and new possibilities are introduced through a wide range of variations. The emphasis is on fun, curious exploration, comfort and ease of movement. Each individual is engaged in a personal journey of self-discovery.
“What I am after is not flexible bodies, but flexible minds. What I am after is restoring people to their human dignity”
- Moshe Feldenkrais

Functional Integration ®

Functional Integration® (FI) is a hands-on form of tactile, kinesthetic communication, in which the Feldenkrais practitioner uses hands-on contact to gently explore existing and novel patterns that ultimately suggest more expanded functional motor patterns.

Functional Integration® lessons are always custom-tailored to the unique configurations and needs of an individual at a particular moment; no two lessons are ever the same. At the core of this work is the experience of comfort, pleasure, and ease of movement.
"The Feldenkrais Method is the most sophisticated and effective method I have seen for the prevention and reversal of deterioration and function."
- Margaret Mead, Ph.D., Anthropologist
